Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Eldermont University is committed to supporting students with disabilities by providing reasonable accommodations that promote access to our academic programs, services, and activities. In alignment with our faith-based mission and ethical responsibility, we believe every student is uniquely created and valued (Psalm 139:14), and we strive to ensure equitable opportunities for all learners.
1. Policy Overview
Eldermont offers reasonable academic adjustments and support services to qualified students with documented disabilities, provided the accommodations do not fundamentally alter the nature or integrity of the program. Requests are reviewed individually and implemented with flexibility and care.
2. Requesting Accommodations
To request an accommodation, students must:
• Submit a written request to the Office of Student Services at [accessibility@eldermont.com].
• Provide documentation from a licensed medical or mental health professional confirming the disability and how it impacts academic participation.
• Submit their request as early as possible to allow sufficient time for review and implementation.
3. Documentation Requirements
Documentation should:
• Be recent and provided by a qualified healthcare provider.
• Clearly describe the nature of the disability and its expected duration.
• Explain how the disability affects the student’s ability to engage with academic work.
• Include recommended accommodations, if applicable.
All medical and personal documentation will be kept confidential.
4. Common Accommodations May Include:
• Modified assignment formats
• Additional time for research activities
• Assistive technology
• Academic coaching or support resources
Accommodations are not retroactive and must be requested before the need arises.
5. Approval & Implementation
Once documentation is reviewed:
• A determination will be made within 10 business days.
• If approved, accommodations will be communicated to relevant faculty.
• Students must inform the university if their needs change or if accommodations are not being implemented properly.
6. Appeals & Follow-Up
Students who are denied accommodations or wish to appeal a decision may do so in writing within 10 days of the decision. Appeals will be reviewed by the Academic Services Committee, and a final determination will be made within 10 business days.
7. Commitment to Accessibility
Eldermont University honors the call to treat all individuals with compassion and fairness (Micah 6:8). Our goal is to cultivate a Christ-centered learning environment where all students—regardless of ability—can flourish.
