Disaster Measures Policy
Disaster Measures Policy
Effective Date: March 2025
Applies to: All Eldermont University digital operations, learning systems, and academic services
Â
1. Purpose
Eldermont University is committed to providing uninterrupted access to academic programs, student services, and institutional resources—even in the event of a natural disaster, technical failure, or other emergency. This policy outlines the university’s safeguards and continuity planning measures for maintaining operations during adverse conditions.
Â
2. Cloud Hosting Infrastructure
Eldermont University’s website, student portal, and academic platform are hosted through a secure, cloud-based web hosting provider that offers:
• Daily automated backups of all critical files and databases
• Unmetered bandwidth to prevent outages from high traffic
• SSL encryption to protect data in transit
• Integrated malware scanning to detect and mitigate security threats
• Global Content Delivery Network (CDN) to improve access speeds and system resilience across international regions
• 24/7 technical support to quickly address system-level issues
Â
This cloud infrastructure ensures continuity of service and enables rapid restoration in the event of a system failure or data loss.
Â
3. Backup and Recovery Protocol
Eldermont University maintains multiple layers of backup and recovery protections:
• Daily backups of the website and digital platform are securely stored in a separate environment.
• Versioned storage ensures recovery to the most recent known-good system state.
• In the event of a system disruption, the university can restore all core services within 24 hours or less.
• Backups include all course content, user activity, enrollment records, and communication logs relevant to the student learning experience.
Â
4. Distributed Operations
Eldermont University operates as a fully remote and distributed institution, enabling continued service delivery even when localized disruptions occur. Key advantages include:
• Faculty, staff, and support personnel can operate from any internet-enabled location.
• No single point of physical failure exists (e.g., office, classroom, or data center).
• Academic services can be transitioned to alternate team members if an instructor or staff member is affected by a regional emergency.
• Student services, including advising, academic review, and administrative functions, are managed through cloud-based tools that support remote collaboration and rapid response.
Â
5. Educational Continuity
In the unlikely event of extended disruption to our platform, Eldermont University will:
• Notify all enrolled students via email with updated access instructions or estimated restoration timelines.
• Provide alternative means of communication and document submission if the learning portal becomes temporarily inaccessible.
• Prioritize restoration of in-progress coursework and academic records to ensure no loss of credit or standing for affected students.
Â
6. Student Records & Data Protection
Student academic records, credentials, and enrollment data are stored in secure, encrypted systems with restricted administrative access. These systems are maintained in accordance with Eldermont’s [Data Privacy & FERPA Policy].
• Student records are never stored solely on local devices.
• In the event of a disruption, backups of student data can be restored to a new environment with minimal loss or delay.
• Sensitive data is handled with strict confidentiality and compliance protocols to ensure both integrity and availability.
Â
7. Ongoing Risk Monitoring & Improvements
Eldermont University regularly reviews its digital infrastructure, continuity planning, and backup strategies to:
• Address evolving cybersecurity and disaster recovery standards
• Perform audits of backup restoration processes
• Enhance system redundancy, uptime, and response capabilities
