Doctrinal Position

Doctrinal Position

Eldermont University is a Christ-centered institution dedicated to academic excellence, biblical scholarship, and the preparation of students for service in ministry, leadership, and professional vocations. Our doctrinal position reflects the foundational truths of the Christian faith that guide our teaching, community, and mission.

1. The Nature of God
We believe in one eternal, sovereign God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things and is perfect in holiness, justice, love, and mercy (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16-17).

2. The Authority of Scripture
We affirm that the Bible—consisting of the Old and New Testaments—is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). It is the final standard for faith, doctrine, and Christian living.

3. The Person and Work of Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully divine and fully human (John 1:1,14; Colossians 2:9). He was born of a virgin (Luke 1:26-35), lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of humanity (Romans 5:8), and rose bodily from the dead on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He ascended into heaven and will return in glory to establish His eternal kingdom (Acts 1:9-11; Revelation 22:12-13).

4. The Fall and Redemption of Humanity
We believe that humanity was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) but fell into sin through Adam’s disobedience (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12). As a result, all people are separated from God and in need of redemption. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is a free gift of God and cannot be earned through human effort.

5. The Role of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully divine and is actively working in the world today. The Spirit convicts of sin (John 16:8), regenerates and indwells believers (Titus 3:5; 1 Corinthians 3:16), empowers them for godly living (Galatians 5:22-23), and equips them for service (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7).

6. The Church and Christian Community
We affirm that the Church is the body of Christ, composed of all who have placed their faith in Jesus (1 Corinthians 12:12-13). The Church exists to worship God, preach the Gospel, disciple believers, and serve the world in love (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:42-47). We believe in the importance of Christian fellowship, accountability, and corporate worship (Hebrews 10:24-25).

7. The Sacraments (Ordinances)
We recognize baptism and the Lord’s Supper as biblical ordinances to be observed by believers.
• Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-4).
• The Lord’s Supper is a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and an act of fellowship among believers (Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

Since Eldermont University is interdenominational, we acknowledge that practices related to these ordinances may vary among Christian traditions.

8. Christian Living and Ethical Responsibility
We believe that Christians are called to live lives of holiness, love, and service (1 Peter 1:15-16; Galatians 5:13). This includes:
• Loving God and neighbor as the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37-39).
• Pursuing integrity in all areas of life (Colossians 3:17).
• Defending the dignity of all human life as created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).
• Promoting justice and mercy in a fallen world (Micah 6:8).

Our ethical guidelines for students, faculty, and staff will be outlined in the Christian Conduct Policy.

9. The Second Coming and Eternal Life
We believe in the personal and imminent return of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:11; Revelation 22:12). He will judge the living and the dead (2 Timothy 4:1), usher in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1-4), and reign eternally.
• Those who trust in Christ will enjoy eternal life in God’s presence (John 3:16).
• Those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God (Matthew 25:46).

10. The Mission of Christian Education
We believe that education is a sacred calling designed to equip believers for intellectual, spiritual, and professional growth (Proverbs 4:7; 2 Timothy 2:15). Eldermont University is committed to:
• Teaching all subjects from a Christian worldview.
• Preparing students for ethical leadership and service.
• Encouraging the integration of faith and academic excellence.
• Equipping students to engage culture with biblical truth.

Final Commitment
As members of Eldermont University, faculty, staff, and students affirm their commitment to the authority of Scripture, the lordship of Christ, and the mission of Christian education. Our doctrinal position serves as the foundation of our academic and spiritual life, guiding all teaching, research, and community engagement.
